Price is I guess average when it comes to motorcycle helmets. Hard to believe that's actually ANSI-spec, 'cause the name is suspect. Granted I've been out of the game for years, but Shark doesn't seem to carry any reputable weight like... Bell, Shoei, Arai, HJC, Burton, Bern, anything recognizable .

And the one review is abysmal too. I have found very few favorable comments on Shark over the internet.

Is that what people wear whilst autocrossing, etc.?

$250 for a full-face helmet is not bad at all! I have a Shoei RF-1000 that ran about $500 if memory serves correctly.

You want expensive? Check these bad boys out - Carbon Fibre yo! Linky

If you are thinking that is a motorcycle helmet, I think you might be mistaken. There's no DOT sticker or anything else saying it meets any certification. To me, it looks like a ski/snowboard helmet.

FWIW, there is a company named Shark that makes motorcycle helmets. http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/sport/modular+… + (not to plug the site, it just happened to be the last motorcycle apparel site I went to)

However, I am going to go with Racescort666's opinion that its most likely a ski/snowboard helmet. There is no mention of any DOT, ECE, or SNELL rating you'd expect to see with a motorcycle helmet.

I have a Shark helmet (not this one), one of their entry level, it's quite a good helmet. But I think it's not the lightest you can have.

Autocross requires Snell-rated helmets (M rated motorcycle ones are generally ok, though some might require the SA car rating), unless they are some sketchy organization, that I wouldn't recommend running with.

That looks pretty awesome. But wearing that you are probably going to get arrested for vandalism/rioting/hooning immediately. That just doesn't look like a helmet for a model citizen.

Bringing this back up from this morning. I tracked down Shark's website and emailed them about the SHARK Raw helmet (this model). They said that it is DOT and ECE certified. I guess that's the best answer out there and I was wrong.

Update: I emailed Shark and got a response that the SHARK Raw is DOT and ECE certified.

Ahh very good, they don't have anything on their main site about it that I could find, so good to know.

From the motorcycling blog reviews I read at work earlier, what the reviewer on Amazon was trying to do (put the goggles on the forehead area of the helmet) isn't something they're actually designed to do, so not really suprising that they broke in that instance. They do have some articles on shark's main website about their more conventional helmets being worn by various motorcycle racers, tho.

Yeah, I asked specifically if the Raw was certified to DOT, SNELL, or ECE and this is the response I got:

Hi-

On the RAW, these are DOT and ECE certified. Shark does not offer a helmet with the Snell certification.

Thanks

Looks like you'd be good to go.

I bought 2 Kaos carbons. 350$ after tax in canada. wore one for a year, got rid of ym glasses, gave it to dad and bought another one. CF, light, bad ass looking.
and IIRC it was DOT and Snell.
